TEL AVIV, ISRAEL — The Israel Lacrosse Association has announced tryout dates for the Israel National Lacrosse Team which will compete in the 2014 FIL Men’s World Championship, held in Denver, Colo., at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park from July 10 to 19, 2014.
The team’s roster will be composed of mostly Israeli players, as well as several Jewish players from abroad, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL). The tryout is expected to attract several top-level professional players from Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL).
The invitation-only tryout will be held July 9-10 at the Wingate Institute, Israel’s National Centre for Physical Education and Sport, located in Netanya. The Institute serves as a training centre for Israel’s national teams, the Olympic Squad and hosts international sport science conferences.
“Hosting our tryouts at Israel’s official national sports training facilities is symbolic of the strong foothold we are building for the sport,” said Israel GM Howard Borkan. “We expect the play to be extremely competitive as we work towards Denver 2014.”
Players interested in being considered for the tryout should contact Chaka Bainbridge at chaka@lacrosse.co.il to schedule an interview. The team will not be hosting a tryout for the men’s team in the United States.
The tournament will mark Israel’s debut in the quadrennial world championship. Israel’s men’s national team recently finished eighth in the 2012 European Lacrosse Championships.
Israel will also be fielding a team in the 2013 Women’s World Cup in Toronto. For more information, visit www.IsraelLacrosse.com.
