Israel Lacrosse Announces Bonnie Rosen and Peter Friedensohn as Associate Head Coaches

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL -- Israel Lacrosse has announced Bonnie Rosen and Peter Friedensohn as Associate Head Coaches for the women's national team that will compete in the 2012 European Lacrosse Festival in Amsterdam this June.

Both Rosen and Friedensohn will also serve in leadership roles with Israel Lacrosse to plan and prepare teams for championship play at the 2013 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup in Oshawa, Canada, and the 2015 FIL U-19 Women's World Championship in Edinburgh, Scotland.

"We're extremely lucky to have Bonnie and Peter on board to lead our program this June in Amsterdam and beyond," said Stephanie Tenenbaum, who currently serves as Israel's Interim Women's Director. "Both have a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and experience, and their professional acumen, pride and commitment to us are invaluable as we work towards building a program with a solid foundation based in Israel."

Rosen, who was inducted into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2010, currently serves as the head coach at Temple University, where she surpassed the 100-win mark in her coaching career early in the 2011 season. Prior to her arrival at Temple, Rosen spent 10 years at the University of Connecticut, starting the Husky program from scratch in 1997. Rosen was as a two-sport athlete at University of Virginia, playing both lacrosse and field hockey for the Cavaliers under coach Jane Miller. In 1991, she helped lead the lacrosse team to its first NCAA Division I National Championship. During her career at Virginia, she earned regional All-American honors and was named Captain and MVP of both the field hockey and lacrosse teams in her senior year. Her successful collegiate career has been followed by a storied National Team career. Rosen represented the United States for 13 years, winning World Cup gold medals in 1997 and 2001. She is a member of the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, the Eastern Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Connecticut Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and the Harriton High School Hall of Fame.

Friedensohn, who was a standout college player at Dartmouth College, is a 1972 graduate of Lynbrook High School, playing four years of varsity lacrosse under legendary coach Tony Seaman. Now a Senior Teacher and Surgeon at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary and Harvard Medical School, Friedensohn's passion for lacrosse has led him to coach at virtually every level, from youth to college. He helped launch both boys and girls lacrosse programs in his hometown of Milton, Ma., and his tenure as a coach at Cardigan Mountain Lacrosse has exposed him to some of the greatest minds in men's lacrosse, led by former Dartmouth head coach Dud Hendrick. An acknowledged student of the game, Friedensohn has an innovative approach to women's lacrosse because of his intimate knowledge of fundamentals and strategy of both the men's and women's game. He has three daughters who have played collegiately at Columbia, Tufts and Johns Hopkins, and his son Blair is an incoming freshman at Dartmouth College. Peter currently resides in Boston, Ma., with his wife, patricia.
