Harvard Men’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Vermont, 11-4


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Daniel Eipp had a hat trick and a trio of Harvard players had two goals apiece as the No. 14/15 Crimson men's lacrosse team opened the 2012 season with a resounding 11-4 victory over visiting Vermont at the Soldiers Field Lacrosse Stadium.

Jeff Cohen (2 goals) started the scoring on an assist from Kevin Vaughn, who tallied two goals and two assists on the day.

After Vermont (0-2) tied the score on a goal from Connor McNamara at the 3:23 mark of the first quarter, Harvard (1-0) scored twice in the final two minutes to claim a 3-1 lead that it would maintain going into halftime.

Harvard dominated play on the afternoon, outshooting the Catamounts, 41-19, including a second quarter in which the Crimson did not allow a shot attempt.

In the second half, Harvard asserted itself, eventually building a 7-1 lead after Eipp's second goal of the game. Vermont did score twice to cut the deficit to 7-3 at the 7:06 mark but Harvard rattled off four straight goals to erase any doubt.

Carl Zimmerman was Harvard's fourth multi-goal player with two goals while Will Walker andJack Walker also scored. Michel Keegan had two assists and Harry Krieger had six saves in just over 58 minutes of work in net for the victory.

McNamara had two goals to lead UVM.

Up next, the Crimson will visit Holy Cross Tuesday.
