CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard men’s lacrosse team recently hosted its annual awards banquet where it recognized many of its student-athletes for their accomplishments for the 2012 season.
Attackman Jeff Cohen ’12 was awarded the Most Outstanding Player Award for his offensive contribution during his record-setting senior season. Cohen is ranked first in Harvard history with 142 career goals after leading the Ivy League with 48 goals and 56 points in 2012. Cohen had a total of 10 hat tricks last year and was named All-Ivy League first team, NEILA All-New England first team and USILA All-America honorable mention. Cohen left Harvard tied for sixth in school history for career points with 167.
Tri-captain Kevin Vaughan ’12 was awarded the Class of ’59 Trophy for Leadership and Enthusiasm following his senior season. Going into 2012, the attackman was named to Preseason All-America third team and Preseason All-Ivy League team. Vaughan started all 14 games last year and lead the Crimson with 19 assist. He ranked third on the team with 17 goals and was tied for second on the team with 33 ground balls. Vaughan tallied 98 points over his four years in a Crimson uniform and was drafted by the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse with the 14th overall pick.
Paul Pate ’12, another Crimson tri-captain, earned the Mike Davis Award for Leadership. The defenseman started all 12 games that he appeared in and collected a total of 12 ground balls over his senior season. Pate was selected for the USILA North-South All–Star Game, named to the NEILA All-New England second team and to the NEILA Senior Scholar-Athlete team.
The Hermann Hammerman Award for Unsung Hero was given to Andrew Pataki ’12. The midfielder grabbed 11 ground balls, caused five turnovers, and scored two goals with one coming in a win over Quinnipiac.
Philip Wagley ’15 was named the Most Improved Player. The freshman attackman made the most of his opportunities in the 2012 season by scoring his first two collegiate goals in his debut.
Cathy Vaughan, mother of Kevin Vaughan ’12, was named the Person who has done the most for Harvard Lacrosse for dedication and commitment for the Crimson program over the last four years.
