BALTIMORE – Two days after earning Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors, Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse player Pat Frazier was named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.
Frazier, a senior close defender, posted career-highs of six ground balls and three caused turnovers last Saturday in the Greyhounds’ 8-6 victory over visiting Penn State Unviersity.
The team co-captain helped lead Loyola to a stout defensive effort that held the Nittany Lions to six goals, a week after they tallied 15 in their season-opener. Frazier held his primary man-to-man matchup, Penn State’s Mike Sutton, to just one goal on two shots. In the Nittany Lions’ first game of 2015, Sutton had two goals and an assist, and last year, he averaged 2.3 goals per game.
Frazier has nine ground balls and a team-high four caused turnovers through two games this year. He is in his third year as a starter, and he was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and a Face-Off Yearbook Honorable Mention All-American.
Loyola is back this afternoon with its first road contest of the year, a 12 noon tilt at Towson University.
