OWINGS MILLS, Md. - For the fourth-straight year, the Stevenson men's lacrosse team will host the Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic to help raise funds for the Meghan Puls Foundation. This year's event will take place on Sunday, October 19beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The 2014 classic will feature six teams, including Stevenson, Cabrini, Franklin & Marshall, Goucher, Virginia Wesleyan and Division II Adelphi.
Cabrini finished with a school-record 17 wins last season, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship before losing to Stevenson, 15-9. Over the last four years, the Cavaliers have posted 62 wins, four conference championships and five NCAA tournament victories.
Franklin & Marshall finished the year as the runner-up in the Centennial Conference and ranked 19th in the USILA Division III Coaches' Poll. The Diplomats went 13-5, marking the first time since 74 that they have put together three consecutive 10-win seasons.
Goucher finished the year 7-8 last season, losing to Susquehanna in the Landmark Conference championship game. Since 2010, the Gophers have posted a 58-28 record while winning two conference titles and making two appearances in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
Virginia Wesleyan posted a 9-7 record a year ago, advancing the ODAC Men's Lacrosse Championship quarterfinals. Sophomore Josh Currier became the first player in the history of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to score 100 points and was named ODAC Player of the Year while earning his second-straight USILA All-America honor.
Adelphi advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship last season, posting a 17-2 record while winning the Northeast-10 title. The Panthers have posted a 60-11 record over the last four seasons while advancing to the 2011 national championship game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
The mission of the foundation is to keep the memory of Meghan Puls, daughter of Stevenson assistant men's lacrosse coach Tim and assistant women's basketball coach Cassie, alive by helping families and children through supporting organizations in the areas of health services and research, youth recreation and education.
Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Lions Camp Merrick diabetes camp. Other beneficiaries include The Seton Keough High School Scholarship, Marillac and Focus programs.
Admission is FREE, but a suggested donation of $5 is encouraged.
Since its inception in 2011, the Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic has featured Stevenson, Adelphi, Cabrini, Elizabethtown, Franklin & Marshall, Goucher, Stevens and Virginia Wesleyan.
