Former State Department Worker Joins Turkey lacrosse

(Istanbul, Turkey) – How many Turkish speaking American lacrosse speakers do you know? Well, now you know of at least one. Dean Pohlman, a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin and a former intern at the U.S. Embassy in Turkey in the Public Affairs Department, will bring his first-hand knowledge of Turkish society and language to Turkey Lacrosse.

Dean played for the Wisconsin Badgers MCLA team from 2009 – 2012, where he was named to the Great Lakes and Rivers Conference 2nd All-Conference Midfield team in 2011, and an honorable mention in 2012. Dean created an instructional video on lacrosse (in Turkish) which has helped ease the accessibility of lacrosse to native Turks.

“I was thrilled when Patrick asked me to join the team,” says Dean Pohlman. “Joining Turkey Lacrosse was really a no brainer – it combines two things that I’m extremely passionate about. I’m anxious to help out in whatever capacity I can.”

“We’re glad to have someone like Dean in our organization,” says Patrick Dougherty, Executive Director and Founder of Turkey Lacrosse. “His Turkish language skills and experiences living in Turkey will no doubt be helpful to the mission of Turkey Lacrosse.”

Dean Pohlman is one of many recent additions to Turkey Lacrosse, which just added Major League Lacrosse players Kyle Sweeney and Johnny Christmas, as well as North Carolina State University Professor, March Krotee, to its Board of Advisors. Turkey Lacrosse recently secured a sponsorship from Reebok for when it hosts the Turkey Lacrosse Open in October of this year in the southern coastal city of Alanya, Turkey.
