As far back as grade school gym, I’m sure you can remember your gym teacher preaching the benefits of “warming up” before any exercise or athletic event. While they probably were not models of fitness themselves they actually were helping you out. Stretching and warming up before working out is critically important but just like anything including the KangaRoos shoes you wore back then, traditional static warm ups have been replaced with better and more effective methods.
Dynamic warm ups involves movements that both warm-up and stretch muscles using specific movement patterns. A good routine will help not only warm up and stretch your core muscles but also strengthen ligaments, joint systems and stabilizer muscles. This helps prepare your body for more advanced sports specific movements and prevent injury.
Go Pro Workouts has worked with Kyle Hartzell to incorporate an effective dynamic warm up routine into his program that will help prepare your muscles for training and on game day as well. With this routine you will see gains in the gym and on the field as well. Below is an example of one of the dynamic warm up movements in his routine.
Dynamic Warm Up -- Walking Giant Lunge
Lunge forward with your left leg. Attempt to get your left forearm is contact with the floor (inside the left leg). Repeat with right leg. Toe Touches. Reach down with your right hand and touch the toes on your right foot. Press your heel into the ground and raise your toes toward the sky.
