BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a stellar collegiate career, Lehigh senior David DiMaria will join his Major League Lacrosse team (Boston) on Saturday and suit up for its game against the Bayhawks. Lehigh alums Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney are also enjoying early-season success for the Hamilton Nationals.
DiMaria was selected in the sixth round (46th overall) by the Cannons in January’s Major League Lacrosse draft. He followed with his most impressive collegiate season, posting career highs in goals (33), assists (40) and points (73). The assist total was fourth in Patriot League history for a single season while his 73 points led the league and were fifth most all-time. After a five-point performance in the NCAA Tournament against North Carolina, the Dix Hills, N.Y. native finished his career with 205 points, good for sixth most in league history. He scored 88 goals while adding 117 assists. DiMaria was named a Tewaaraton Award Candidate (for the nation’s top player) and earned Patriot League Tournament MVP.
The Cannons are 0-3 on the season leading into Saturday’s home showdown with the Chesapeake Bayhawks at Harvard Stadium. The game will face off at 7 p.m. and can be seen live online on ESPN3.com.
Meanwhile, former standouts Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney are off to strong starts with Hamilton. Roman has played in both games, scoring a goal and scooping three groundballs in a May 11 win at New York. He then had two groundballs and two shots at Boston a week later. Cameron has played in one game, dishing an assist while firing two shots on goal at Boston. The Nationals are 2-0 on the season and return to action against Charlotte in a special Friday morning 11 a.m. faceoff for the annual Kids Day Game.
