Detroit To Face #16/17 Marquette, Bellarmine This Weekend At Midwest Classic

DETROIT (2/25/2015) -- Two games in three days and one featuring a ranked opponent has the makings of a fun and exciting weekend full of action as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team visits Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Midwest Classic.
The event is hosted by Bellarmine University at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium as the Titans match-up with No. 16/17 Marquette on Friday, Feb. 27, and the Knights on Sunday, March 1, with both games scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. (Friday's game time was moved up due to weather)
There will be a live webcast and live stats available for both games.
Fans can follow every Detroit game this season through the men's lacrosse GAMEDAY CENTRAL page located on the Titans Athletic Website that will keep fans one click away from all the action. This page will feature links for live stats (audio and video when applicable) as well as links for all the latest info while also making it easy to find the Titans on social media and to purchase game tickets. The Gameday Central page also carries all the information on each opponent from who is leading the all-time series to who won the last game.
Detroit enters the game at 2-1 overall and receiving votes in the USILA Coach's Poll after the Titans came back to down Robert Morris in overtime, 11-10. Freshman Mark Anstead led the team with six points on three goals and three assists, and sophomore Kyle Beauregard recorded his first collegiate hat trick with his third marker the game winner in the extra session.
Anstead was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalie Jason Weber made 16 saves to earn his second Defensive Player of the Week award of the season.
Detroit will also look for a few "firsts" this weekend as Detroit is 0-7 all-time against nationally-ranked teams, 0-6 against Bellarmine and 0-2 versus Jesuit-rival Marquette.
Marquette comes into the game on Friday at 3-0 with three one-goal victories, all on the road. The Golden Eagles have defeated No. 18/16 Lehigh (10-9), Hofstra (11-10) and Richmond (11-10, OT) on the year to climb into the top 20 in both national lacrosse polls.
Bellarmine is 1-1 on the season falling at Michigan (16-9), but beating Robert Morris (13-10). The Knights will play Ohio State on Friday in their first game of the Midwest Classic.
