Detroit Mercy Men's Lacrosse Runs To The Fist (Video)

DETROIT -- It was just a normal stroll through downtown Detroit for members of the men's lacrosse team as the Titans spent Thursday afternoon running in the rain to a pair of the Motor City's most famous landmarks, the Joe Louis Fist and the Spirit of Detroit.

“It was awesome and we all touched the fist at the same time” said senior Jason McDonald. “We never left anyone behind and we stayed together as a team and that camaraderie is going to get us there (MAAC Championship).”

“We had people cheering us on through the streets and it was a great feeling,” added senior Scott Harris.

Planned by the lacrosse coaching staff and assistant strength & conditioning coach Nick Wilson, the Titans began their journey at 1:00 p.m., exiting Calihan Hall for the estimated 8.7-mile run. It was non-stop for the most part, with a slow down here and there due to street crossings.

“I was proud of the guys for taking this challenge head on,” said Wilson. “It was great to see the guys stick together, running through the city and then seeing their reaction when they made it to the fist.”

The team even ran past Kid Rock filming his latest music video before it reached the ultimate goal of the Fist of a Champion. After a few minutes to cool down, the Titans gathered for a team picture, before heading right across the street for another photo op with the bronze Spirit statue.
