Detroit Mercy Lacrosse Inks Nine In Early Signing Period

DETROIT (12/6/2012) -- Nine prep lacrosse players have decided to take their talent to the Motor City as head coach Matt Holtz announced the signings of Kyle Beauregard (Clarkston, Mich./Notre Dame Prep.), Marcus Butters (St. Catharines, Ont./Denis Morris), Lucas Ducharme (LaSalle, Ont./ St. Thomas of Villanova), Seth Horwat (Butler, Pa./Butler Area Senior High School), Matt Lee (Etobicoke, Ont./Everest Academy), Bryan Matney (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Kyle Pedwell (St. Catharines, Ont./Everest Academy), Adam Susalla (Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm) and Jason Weber (Whitby, Ont./Christ School – Asheville, N.C.). All nine will enroll as freshmen next fall.
Kyle Beauregard – Attack - 5-7/160 - Clarkston, Mich./Notre Dame Prep
Already familiar with the Titan lacrosse team as his older brother, Brandon, is a sophomore attackman for UDM…Has lettered for three years in lacrosse amassing 142 points on 90 goals and 52 assists… Was tabbed All-Catholic and All-Region as a freshman and sophomore, while adding First Team All-State as a sophomore… Had his best season as a sophomore in 2011 ending with 57 goals and 28 assists to finish second on the team in scoring… Missed most of his junior campaign with an injury…Has been a part of some great teams with Notre Dame winning a pair of Catholic League titles (2010, 2011) and three regional championships as well as three trips to the state semifinals and a state runner-up finish in 2010…Plays club with 1763 and was selected to the all-star game at the annual Hotbeds tournament this past summer.
Coach Holtz on Beauregard: “Kyle is a quick and shifty goal scorer. He has had an excellent high school career so far and we are looking forward to him contributing in the very near future.”
Marcus Butters - Midfield - 5-10/165 - St. Catharines, Ont./Denis Morris
Another product from Canada from the same high school that produced current standout attackman Shayne Adams…Has lettered in lacrosse, cross country, basketball and badminton… A two-time team captain who also won the Coaches Award and was team MVP as a junior and senior…Led his team to back-to-back district and Southern Ontario championships, while placing fourth at the provincials in 2012 and seventh in 2011… Played for a number of club teams and has enjoyed success there too, including a U19 Provincial Field Lacrosse championship, a Provincial Silver Medalist in 2011, and a U16 Provincial Field Lacrosse title in 2009.
Coach Holtz on Butters: “He brings a good level of skill and athleticism to our midfield and he can do a lot of things for us on both ends of the field.”
Lucas Ducharme – Midfield – 6-2/180 - LaSalle Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova
Lettered in hockey, track and cross country in high school, but played box lacrosse in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League with the Windsor Clippers… Tabbed the Junior B Ontario League Rookie of the Year in 2012 after leading the team in scoring with 76 points on 33 goals and 43 assists… Played club lacrosse with the Jacksonville Lacrosse Club, Edge Lacrosse, Ontario West team, True Lacrosse and 1763… The leading scorer on the Jacksonville Lacrosse Club for the Hotbeds Field Lacrosse Tournament in 2012 as the squad went 12-2… Also played in the All-Canada Games with Ontario West helping that team to an 8-1 record.

Seth Horwat – Defense - 6-5/180 - Butler, Pa./Butler Area Senior High School
Has lettered in lacrosse and basketball so far as a prep…Helped the Butler High School to a Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) championship as a freshman… Also guided the Tornados to a state semifinals appearance in 2012…Played one year of club with Pittsburgh Elite Lacrosse.

Matt Lee - Attack – 5-8/151 - Etobicoke, Ont./Everest Academy
Lee has lettered in lacrosse, hockey and volleyball… Helped Everest Academy to a number of tournament championships, including the Ithaca Turkey Shoot in 2012…Made a name for himself in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League this summer playing for the Mimico Mountaineers and helping the team to a playoff berth… He was one of the squad's top offensive players finishing the season third on the team in scoring (48), second in assists (32) and sixth in goals (16)…Also played with the U19 Mimico Field Lacrosse team this summer helping the program win a Division 3 championship.
Coach Holtz on Lee: “Matt is a sure handed goal scorer who uses his quickness and stick skills very well.”
Bryan Matney – Defense – 6-0/190 – Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer
A highly decorated recruit that has earned letters in lacrosse and football and was named a team captain for his senior season… Selected Third Team All-State as well as First Team All-Region and All-Area as a junior after compiling 62 caused turnovers and 102 ground balls… Helped the Pioneers to a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division I state runner-up appearance in 2012… Part of a travel team that won the Ohio State team camp title over the summer… Played club with Ann Arbor Delta.
Coach Holtz on Matney: “He is a big, athletic defender who has a great head on his shoulders and works extremely hard.”
Kyle Pedwell - Attack - 5-11/180 - St. Catharines, Ont./Everest Academy
The second Titan signee from Everest Academy, he guided his team to a title at the Indiana Exhibition Series and the Ithaca Turkey Shoot in 2012… He was the Rookie of the Year in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League for the Welland Warriors… He tallied 33 points – third on the team – on 16 goals and 17 assists… He was also the Graduating Player of the Year for the St. Catharines Midget squad in 2011…He played club and travel with Edge Lacrosse, Niagara Raiders, Welland Warlords and the Brampton Inferno… He helped the Niagara Raiders to a U19 gold medal in 2011 and a silver medal in 2012, while winning the CLAX championship with Brampton in 2011 and 2012.
Coach Holtz on Pedwell: “Kyle is a versatile, offensive threat. He uses his body well and is aggressive around the goal.”
Adam Susalla - Attack - 5-10/160 – Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm
Susalla is a proven goal scorer who has earned letters in lacrosse and hockey in high school… He was named a captain of Birmingham United this season and is coming off a junior year that saw him earn his second straight Honorable Mention All-State honor… He was also Honorable Mention All-Country and Honorable Mention All-Midwest, and was a First Team All-Conference selection… Also garnered Academic All-State in 2012 and was First Team All-Conference in hockey.

Jason Weber - Goalie - 5-11/160 – Whitby, Ont./Christ School – Asheville, N.C.
Originally from Canada, Weber has excelled in the states while playing for the Christ School in Asheville, N.C… Has lettered in cross country at lacrosse as a prep… In his career, he has posted 258 saves, allowed just 3.0 goals per game and sports a 78.0 save percentage… He was selected First Team All-American by US Lacrosse in 2011 and 2012… Also twice tabbed First Team All-State and All-Conference and was team MVP as a sophomore and junior… Played club with Team Carolina Elite… Was invited to play in the Top 205 rising seniors camp this past summer and put together a solid performance at the 2012 Adrenaline All-Canada Games Lacrosse Tournament, which included scoring a goal.
Coach Holtz on Weber: “Jason is an all-around excellent goalie. He sees the ball great, moves well to the ball, and has solid fundamentals in the clearing game.”
