Colgate Men's Lacrosse Set to Battle Dartmouth

HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/22/12) – The No. 19/20 Colgate men's lacrosse team will complete its three-game homestand this weekend when it welcomes Dartmouth for a matchup on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m.

The Raiders, who are the only team in the Patriot League with a 2-0 undefeated record, are coming off their second-straight win, defeating Vermont 10-6 on Saturday. Senior co-captain Jeff Ledwick had three goals and one assist in the game while junior Peter Baum and senior Colby Wilson also recorded hat tricks in the game.

RAIDERS' SCORING LEADERS
Peter Baum, who has extended his point streak to 29 games, which is tied for ninth in the nation, continues to lead the team with eight points from seven goals and one assist. He is followed by Jeff Ledwick and Colby Wilson, who are second and third respectively. Ledwick has five goals and two assists for seven points while Wilson has five points from four goals and one helper.

COLGATE RANKED IN NATIONAL POLLS
The Raiders, who continue to hold the No. 19 spot in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Poll, recently jumped into the Top-20 of the USILA Coaches Poll, securing the No. 20 spot.
Prior to the season, the team was ranked No. 18 and 20 in the Inside Lacrosse 2012 Face-Off Yearbook Rankings. Colgate clinched the No. 18 spot in the Division I Top 20 Rankings and the No. 20 rank in the Coaches' Division I Top 20 Rankings.

GORDON WINS PL WEEKLY AWARD
Colgate men's lacrosse senior Kevin Gordon was selected as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the team's win over Vermont on Saturday. Gordon is the second player on the team to receive a weekly award this season, with junior James Queeney winning the first Defensive Player of the Week award last week. The senior co-captain collected an impressive seven groundballs and was an instrumental force in the team's transition that enabled the offense to score 10 goals in the win.

SERIES
Dartmouth leads the all-time series with a 17-3-1 record since the teams first met in 1931. Colgate's only three wins in the series were a pair of 12-10 wins in 1956 and 1957, and most recently a 13-8 victory on the road on Feb. 26 last season. The only tie in the series was in the 1960 season, 16-16 in Hanover, N.H.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green (0-0) completed the 2011 season with a 5-9 overall record and a 1-5 Ivy League mark. The team returns four of its top five point leaders. Senior Kip Dooley had a team-high 33 points from 14 goals and 19 assists, while junior Nikki Dysenchuk, senior Drew Tunney and sophomore Jeff Perkins were third, fourth and fifth respectively. Dysenchuk had 26 points from 18 goals and eight assists, Tunney had 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points and Perkins had 17 points from 14 goals and three assists.

Leading the way in net is senior Fergus Campbell. The 2012 Tewaaraton Award Watch List candidate completed the 2011 season 10.93 goals against average, 67 groundballs and a total of 162 saves for a .528 save percentage.

LUCKY NUMBER 10
Ten seems to be the number of choice for Colgate's offense this season, scoring 10 goals in both wins this season. The Raiders defeated Bryant 10-8 in its season opener and then secured a 10-6 win over Vermont last weekend.

PL PRESEASON POLL
The Colgate men's lacrosse team was picked to finish third in the 2012 Patriot League Preseason Poll that was released today, while junior Peter Baum was selected as the PL Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

The Raiders landed the third spot behind defending champion Bucknell and Army. The Bison were picked to win the title once again with 72 points, the maximum point tally possible, and 12 first-place votes while Army received 54 points and two first-place votes. Following Colgate, which had 52 points, were Lehigh (44), Navy (38), Lafayette (19) and Holy Cross (15).
