The Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse today announced a trade to acquire third-year attackman Joe Cummings from the Ohio Machine. The Hounds in exchange for Cummings send the Machine their fifth-round (39th overall) pick in the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Cummings, a University of Maryland grad, originally was drafted in the third round (17th overall) of the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Rochester Rattlers. He then was traded to the Chesapeake Bayhawks and subsequently the Ohio Machine before playing a game in the MLL. However, when Cummings joined the Machine at the end of the 2012 season he made an immediate impact. The attackman notched nine goals and added two assists (11 points) in four games. Cummings in his sophomore season for the Machine did not let up, posting 20 goals and five assists (25 points) in 13 games.
Cummings will join a Hounds attack unit that includes All Stars Matt Danowski, Ryan Young and Mike Sawyer, third-year veteran Eric Lusby and rookie Owen Blye.
The 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft is scheduled for Friday, January 10 at the Philadelphia Marriott during the annual U.S. Lacrosse convention. That follows the 2014 MLL Supplemental Draft, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4.
