Charlotte Hounds Break Guinness World Record

Charlotte, NC -- On Saturday, November 19 at American Legion Memorial Stadium, a group of regional lacrosse players organized by the Hounds and Doug Little, Director of SCOG Lacrosse, took the field for the first ever Charlotte Hounds Foundation fundraiser. At precisely 8:00 AM ET, Hounds Blue and Hounds White faced off and took aim for the 12 hour, 8 minute Guinness World Record for Longest Marathon Playing Lacrosse (male).

After thirty-nine 20 minute periods and 13 hours, 14 minutes of continuous play, the final horn sounded and the game ended in a 140-140 tie. "Everyone thought the ending result was awesome. Who would have thought after 13 hours we would end in a 140 -140 tie?! I think it was fitting to end that way. Everyone was a winner," said Little.

"The passion and support of our community, especially the guys who gave it all on the field today, is super impressive," said Jim McPhilliamy, Team President & Managing Partner. McPhilliamy and Wade Leaphart, Director of Sales & Marketing, played goalie in the big game. "My save percentage needs some work. Got a whole new appreciation for the guys in the crease. Seeing some hard shots bounce off of Wade was awesome. I think he took about 6 in the body during one stint."

The initial fundraiser for the Charlotte Hounds Foundation stuck to the motto of "Lacrosse is HUGE in Charlotte" and raised over $8,000.
