BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head coach and United States assistant Kevin Cassese is helping lead the Red, White and Blue at the Play for Parkinson's Lacrosse Series this weekend. The squad will split up to play Towson and Loyola then play an intrasquad game to wrap up Saturday's schedule.
USA White will face defending CAA Champion Towson at 12 p.m. Saturday while USA Blue will play 2012 National Champion and new Patriot League member Loyola at 2 p.m. The two U.S. squads will then square off at 4 p.m.
The United States roster was trimmed to 52 on Sept. 3. Lehigh alums Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney were two of only 98 players to earn a tryout, but just missed the cut.
A full slate of women's games is set for Sunday as well. All games will be played at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va.
The Play For Parkinson's Lacrosse Series showcases top NCAA lacrosse talent to benefit the ProjectSpark Foundation.
Dedicated to the eradication of Parkinson's disease in our lifetime and to the amelioration of the effects of the disease for all those directly and indirectly affected, the ProjectSpark Foundation seeks to complement the efforts of other institutions focused on this debilitating disease by finding those points of leverage where a "spark" will help ignite the solutions needed to unlock a cure.
ProjectSpark was established by former Princeton lacrosse player Christian Cook and his sister, Lauren, as a means to fight this devastating disease that has touched so many families. In the fall of 2008, Christian and Lauren's mother, Diane Cook, was diagnosed with early stage Parkinson's.
ProjectSpark is proud to sponsor the Play For Parkinson's Lacrosse Series, a tournament that highlights young men and women playing what has been called "the fastest game on two feet," to help those whose very ability to move becomes compromised over time by this chronic, progressive disease.
