Cannons Defeat Bayhawks Behind Ryan Boyle's Eight Points

Boston, MA - The Boston Cannons (7-5) overcame a first half deficit to defeat the first-place Chesapeake Bayhawks, 16-13, in front of 9,117 fans at Harvard Stadium today. Six Cannons had at least two goals in the victory, with Ryan Boyle leading the offense with eight points on two goals and six assists to earn Bud Light Player of the Game honors.

Chesapeake jumped out to a quick lead on a two-pointer from Steven Brooks followed by a man-up goal from Drew Westervelt. Midfielder Pat Heim got the Cannons on the board, followed by Matt Poskay's 201st career goal. Michael Kimmel added another for the Bayhawks but Ari Sussman scored his first of the night to keep the Cannons within one after the first quarter.

John Grant, Jr. completed a hat trick in the second quarter for the Bayhawks - including two behind-the-back goals - but Paul Rabil, Kevin Buchanan, Poskay, Mike Stone and Boyle each scored for the Cannons to stay even with Chesapeake to enter halftime down one, 9-8.

After Buchanan tied the game at nine coming out of the break, Ari Sussman scored two in a row to complete his hat trick and give the Cannons their first lead, which they would not give up for the remainder of the game.

Rabil, who finished the game with five points, opened the fourth quarter with a man-up two-point goal. Grant, Jr. scored his fourth goal less than a minute later, but Stone and Boyle each scored their second of the night to solidify the Cannons' first victory since July 7 in Hamilton.
