Cali's Finest Youth Camp: Apparel Designs

Cali's Finest lacrosse is a youth program/camp founded by Devin Maxwell where west coast laxers can experience the lifestyle and culture of the game. As a promotional effort Maxwell will be producing apparel with creative artwork from friends. The shirts are also used as a vehicle for fundraising to help cover the cost of starting the camp. We had the chance to talk with Maxwell as well as get a sneek peek at the designs for the upcoming camp apparel.

The inspiration for the program came from Devin Maxwell's personal experiences. "I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA where the game is still foreign to most of the population,"Maxwell states. "I was fortunate enough to go east to play college (Herkimer '09, SUNY Morrisville '11) ball and learned so much about the game, culture, and lifestyle of lacrosse that most young laxers on the west coast will never learn or experience."

Maxwell's game has evolved and is still evolving as he continues to meet and interact with laxers from all over the world. "The brotherhood that all lacrosse players share is what makes our game so unique, because it brings athletes of all different backgrounds and regions together to share a common love and passion for the game,"Maxwell explains. These are a few major points of emphasis he plans on teaching in Cali's Finest lacrosse program, as well as teaching fundamentals and developing a stronger competition level for lacrosse on the westcoast.

The artist, Joseph Cabello, and Devin are working on different designs that lacrosse players all over can wear on and off the field. All proceeds from apparel sales go into a Cali's Finest Lacrosse fund.

The dates of the camp have not yet been determined, but Maxwell is shooting for summer of 2010. "This project has been a surprising success so far, thanks to the help of Everyone of my fellow laxers from all over the world, and will only become more of a success with the help and support of more lacrosse players."

Lacrosse like with any sport or art or group for that matter can only go so far in one area, in order for it to be truly great and reach it’s full potential in the American community it needs to expand, get more players, discover new stars, maybe even get a Mexican on the field for crying out loud. Dev’s endeavour to bring the sport down here to the west coast and represent it the way it should be done is a ballsy move that I really hope pays off.
