Brown Cruises To 18-12 Win Over UMass Behind Dylan Molloy’s Seven Goals

Amherst, Mass. - The 48th meeting between Brown and UMass turned out to be an old fashioned shootout, with the Bears utilizing their new fast-paced offense and sophomore attackman Dylan Molloy’s (Setauket, NY) career high seven goals to come away with an 18-12 win over the Minutemen at McGuirk Stadium.

Brown improves to 2-0 with the win, while UMass falls to 0-4 overall.

Molloy’s seven goals came on just 11 shots and he added two assists to finish with nine points. Bears’ junior attackman Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA), who missed all of last season due to injury, continued his comeback with four goals, while junior attackman Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) added three goals and three assists.

Junior Will Gural (Haverford, PA) was terrific in the face-off x, winning 19 of 30 face-offs for the Bears. In goal for Brown, junior tri-captain Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) registered eight saves.

The Minutemen were paced by Peter Lindley and Grant Whitney, who scored three goals each. Goalie D.J. Smith made nine saves for the Minutemen in 51:26

Brown opened the game by attacking the Minutemen and building a 5-0 lead on two goals by Blynn and one each by goals by Molloy, Nick Piroli (Black River, NY) and Bellistri. A late first quarter by UMass attackman Ryan Izzo cut the Bears lead to 5-1 after one quarter.

The game settled down n the second quarter with each team scoring four goals as Brown held a 9-5 lead at the half. Molloy scored two goals in the quarter while Bellistri and Blynn scored one each for the Bears. Gianni Blanchin scored twice for the Minutemen and, Brendan Hegarty and Grant Whiteway added a goal each.

UMass got back in the game and cut Brown’s lead to 11-8 with 7:00 left in the third quarter on a goal by Lindley.

But the Bears answered by scoring five of the game’s next six goals to grab a 16-9 advantage on a Gural goal with 10:22 left in the game, putting the game out of reach.

Brown is back in action again on Wednesday, March 4, traveling to Hartford, Connecticut to battle Hartford. Game time is 3:30 pm.
