This is the second year in a row that Wilson has hosted the Breakout Lacrosse DC Classic. “It is an exceptional venue and location for fans, players and coaches to watch and celebrate excellent lacrosse,” commented Matt Breslin who is co-founder and CEO of Breakout Lacrosse.
Last year’s DC Classic at Wilson High School showcased five (5) fast paced, competitive and exciting lacrosse games. The highlight of the day was the contest between KIPP DC and School Without Walls who were participating in their first DC Classic. Matt Breslin added, “It is so great to see the sport growing within the city! Having these two teams play smart and tough lacrosse when so many of their players just picked up a stick in the last year or two is really special to witness. I can’t wait to see them back on the field this year!”
Admission to the DC Lacrosse Classic is free for students high school age and younger and $5 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the gate. Commemorative DC Lacrosse Classic t-shirts, listing all participating schools, will be sold, along with game programs. Concessions will be sold throughout the day by the Wilson Lacrosse Booster Club.
Proceeds from the DC Lacrosse Classic will benefit WINNERS Lacrosse (The Washington Inner City Lacrosse Foundation), a nonprofit organization that provides Washington, DC boys and girls (ages 6-16) from historically underserved neighborhoods the opportunity to learn the game and the life skills associated with playing a team sport. WINNERS Lacrosse uses the sport as a vehicle to teach life skills that will give boys and girls the tools to be successful on and off the field. “The Breakout Lacrosse DC Classic is an event our guys look forward to each year. We always have great games at this event and we are excited to compete against a conference opponent (St. Johns College High School) this year on this stage,” said Gonzaga Purple Eagles head coach Casey O’Neill and current head of the DC Lacrosse Association. “We are really looking forward to a great day of lacrosse to kick off the 2014 spring season!”
