As of 12:30 (EST) today, Wheaties announced the signing of Major League Lacrosse Rookie of the Year Rob Pannell to Team Wheaties.

This is not only a tremendous accomplishment for Pannell, but it is also groundbreaking for the sport of lacrosse. Clearly, Wheaties understands the impact and could lead to more "name brand" organizations following suit.

In August, Wheaties partnered with Lacrosse Playground and EPOCH Lacrosse to delve into the lacrosse market. That partnership included a relationship of one of the most iconic brands in sports history with an ever-emerging lacrosse equipment provider, who manufactures lacrosse shafts with only the highest-grade materials available.

Jim Wilson, Wheaties Marketing Manager, described the LPG and EPOCH partnership as "a great fit."

“Wheaties is all about fueling and celebrating the potential that each person and team have to become champions,” said Jim Wilson, Wheaties Marketing Manager. “Lacrosse has grown exponentially in recent years, helping to redefine the sports landscape in the U.S. Like Wheaties, lacrosse has helped redefine what it means to be a champion, which makes the partnership such a great fit.”

Pannell joins NFL All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson on Team Wheaties, in addition to speed skaters, para-athletes, and more.

What does this mean for the growth of the sports? What will the signing bring into fruition? We'll bring you more information as it comes.
