Bragging Rights On The Line In The Big House As The Titans Face Michigan On Wednesday

DETROIT (4/16/2013) -- The second edition of the battle between the only two Division I programs in the Great Lakes State will resume on Wednesday as the Detroit Titans head to Ann Arbor to face the Michigan Wolverines under the lights at Michigan Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Titans won the first meeting against U-M last year, 13-9, in front of a sold out 1,800 fans at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. Alex Maini had five points on three goals and two assists and A.J. Levell made nine saves as the Titans were down 4-2 early, but outscored the Wolverines, 8-4, in the second half for the victory.

UDM is coming off another close loss in conference play as it led Siena 9-6 late in the third, but the Saints came back to take the game 13-10. It was Detroit's sixth setback of the season by four goals or less, and all three of its losses in conference play have been by three goals or less, including a one-goal defeat in overtime at Jacksonville.

Maini and sophomore Scott Drummond led the offense with three goals and four points at Siena, the fifth career hat trick for Maini and the second for Drummond. Maini has now taken over the team lead with 26 points and is tied with sophomore Mike Birney for the team high with 17 goals.

Defensively, Detroit still leads the MAAC in penalty killing at 75.0%, allowing just 13 goals in 52 opportunities, as well as caused turnovers (9.8). The Titans are also second in save percentage (52.8%), third in shot percentage (28.0%), man-up goals (12), and goals against average (10.27), and have allowed just 103 goals, tied for second in the league.

Michigan is 0-12 on the season and 0-6 in its first year as a member of the ECAC. U-M is actually 1-25 in its short history and is currently on a 20-game losing streak dating back to last season. The Wolverines are coming off a 17-8 loss to Ohio State at home on Saturday. Michigan has played one other common opponent on the season with Detroit falling to Bellarmine, 12-6.

Michigan is led in scoring by Kyle Jackson, who tops the team in points (22) and goals (15). Mike Hernandez is second in scoring tallying 20 points on 11 goals and a team-high nine assists, while Thomas Paras has 14 points with 10 goals and four helpers. Gerald Logan is the team's netminder and has a 12.09 goals against average and a .554 save percentage along with a team-best 33 ground balls.

U-M is averaging 6.25 goals per game, while giving up 12.08. The Wolverines have won 40.7% of their faceoffs (107-263), and have been called for 49 penalties for a total of 38 minutes.

Up next for Detroit will be a trip to Milwaukee as the Titans meet first-year program Marquette on Saturday night. First faceoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (ET) at Hart Park.
