Boston Cannons Win MLL/US Lacrosse Monthly Sportsmanship Award for July

BALTIMORE, August 5, 2014 — US Lacrosse and Major League Lacrosse have named the Boston Cannons as the winner of the league’s monthly sportsmanship award for Weeks 9-12. The Cannons were selected for the honor based on voting conducted among the league’s game officials.

Boston is the third monthly winner of this new award, introduced in 2014 as part of a joint partnership between Major League Lacrosse and US Lacrosse to promote good sportsmanship in lacrosse. The three 2014 monthly sportsmanship winners – Rochester Rattlers, Florida Launch and Boston Cannons – are now eligible to be selected by the league’s officials as the MLL’s Sportsmanship Team of the Year Award winner. That announcement will be made later this month.

“The entire Boston Cannons organization is extremely proud to be awarded this sportsmanship award from US Lacrosse and MLL,” said head coach John Tucker. “We make a conscious effort honor the sport and to represent the league with class and integrity.”

“Growing the game has a lot of responsibility tied to it, and as professional lacrosse players and ambassadors for lacrosse, there is an even larger responsibility in being a great role model for younger players,” said Stephen Berger, men’s game director at US Lacrosse and an active MLL player for the Cannons. “The sportsmanship award is a great way for MLL players, teams, coaches and officials to embody the true meaning of “competing with class” and “honoring the game.”

US Lacrosse and Major League Lacrosse encourage all lacrosse participants take the pledge to compete with class and honor the game. To read more about this sportsmanship initiative, please visit uslacrosse.org/competewithclass.
