What is the ASA 5K Lacrosse Team Challenge Powered by Inside Lacrosse? ASA consists of many former lacrosse players. So, we have decided to reach out to all the area high school and club lacrosse programs to invite them to participate in the ASA 5K Race. We, lacrosse players, are a very competitive bunch so this is a chance to just have some fun. There are no awards in this program. Instead, we are hoping that you and your team will register for the run, come to show your team’s spirit and celebrate the joy of being an athlete.

The majority of ASA Athletes are confined to a wheelchair and not able to walk or run on their own power. ASA was created so that these Athletes can experience being part of a team and the thrill of participating in an athletic event like you and me. So, the only purpose is to support the ASA Athletes and have fun. Will your team join us? Club and High School Teams Already Committed: St. Paul’s, McDonogh, Greene Turtle, Skywalkers, Ravens, Diamonds.

What Does ASA Do? Take a look at the picture attached with this press release. That is James Banks competing in the Baltimore Marathon. James is an Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA) Athlete and yes, he competes in mainstream multi-sport events despite his physical challenges that limit his ability to run, bike or swim on his own. If you have ever participated or been a spectator at a local 5k, marathon or triathlon, you have surely seen and cheered for an ASA Athlete and their support team (Wingmen).

Who Are We? ASA was founded in 2007 by David Slomkowski as a non-profit to introduce individuals living with a disability to the excitement and thrill of athletic competition, the discipline of training and the camaraderie that comes with being part of a team. Dave was inspired by Dick Hoyt supporting his son, Rick, during an Ironman and thought more Athletes with disabilities may want to compete.

Join us for the ASA 5K, you’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to step on the field. Please contact Sarah Oglesby Slomkowski at 410-963-7501 and let her know if you are interested. Your players will register as individuals at www.asa5k.com. We would love if your team arrives with all your players/runners wearing their team jersey.
