Army and Air Force to Play in Beating Cancer with a Stick Lacrosse Classic

Houston - Army and Air Force will meet in the third annual Beating Cancer with a Stick Lacrosse Classic on March 10, 2012 at 1:00 pm in Houston, Texas. The major match-up will take place at the Kinkaid School in Houston and marks the first time these competitors have met on a neutral field.

This game will mark the third NCAA Division 1 lacrosse game ever to be played in Houston. "Seeing Air Force vs Army is a ground breaking event for Greater Houston lacrosse. Over the past 24 years lacrosse in Houston has boomed at every level. This event allows that boom to continue letting the youth lacrosse players of Houston witness lacrosse at the highest level, " says Jeremy Platt, Head Lacrosse Coach at The Kinkaid School.

Beating Cancer with a Stick was the inspiration of Coach Jeremy Platt (Springfield Goalie and former MLL player). The event raises funds for research at The Children's Cancer Hospital at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Coach Platt was motivated to raise funds to fight cancer after several members of the Kinkaid community were impacted by the disease. Kinkaid's 8th grade lacrosse coach Kelly Bolin is a throat cancer survivor and Amy Zimmerman the wife of Kinkaid's basketball coach Scott Zimmerman is recovering from both Non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is ranked as one of the leaders in cancer research and treatment.

The Event, highlighting Army vs. Air Force as well as high school lacrosse teams from The Kinkaid School, Palo Verde from Las Vegas, Strake Jesuit and St. John's School is expected to draw nearly 5000 enthusiastic fans to the campus of The Kinkaid School. Coach Platt says, " our families alumni, and generous donors have blessed us with the best high school facilities in the land and I feel it's only appropriate to utilize those facilities to grow the sport of lacrosse and raise money for a worthy cause."
