The 2013 season is here and we wanted to work closely with college programs to bring a part of the excitement to you. Throughout the 2013 season we will highlight lacrosse programs on our space for all of our readers to follow. Player blogs serve as a unique outlet for programs to showcase their season as it develops, plus highlight everything they have to offer a student-athlete. In contrast, families and fans get a glimpse into the program’s athletic and academic regimen.

Texas Lacrosse
We came. We saw. We conquered. Napoleon said it once. The Texas Longhorns Men’s D1 (Club) Lacrosse team said it again. This past weekend in New Orleans, after dedicating weeks of sweat, blood, and tears to preparing for the first big weekend of the year, the Horns took down two of the finest D1 (Club) teams in all the land. We made the Allstate Sugar Bowl (and the streets of New Orleans… after the second game) ours for the third year in a row.
It was a long road to New Orleans— 10 hours and a couple hundred miles preceded by many other occurrences —but the team made the best of it. The weeks prior entailed not only practice, a film session, and a few weekend matinee games against conference opponents, but also constant criticism from lacrosse experts who heavily favored our Saturday opponent, Florida State (*spoiler*: they could not have been more wrong). A 10-3 win against LSU on Friday night, highlighted by a second-half shutout of the Bayou Tigers and stellar play by stalwart keeper Jordan Lee was followed by dinner and bedtime. The next day, things got serious.
Game Day vs Florida State. The team came to a consensus in agreeing that those five words were the first to come upon our minds the moment we woke in the morning. Everything we did, from breakfast to pregame meal to stretching on the field had an electricity matched only by those feelings that were felt in the same spot each year before. The same electricity we carried all throughout the day erupted on the field at the first whistle: the Longhorns went up 6-0 in the first quarter and never looked back. Game MVP Spencer Price had 7 goals and 5 of the first 6. As one player put it, “The kid’s straight ridic.” It goes without saying, but this was the beginning of a fine night for the boys. It was defenseman Turner Kerr’s 21st birthday as well.
As a team, we can only look to continue our success as the season progresses. Texas A&M is our next opponent this Sunday (2/24) and we are looking forward to welcoming Boston College to Austin on March 4 for a Monday evening game under the lights. We hope to show them a great time during their stay in Texas, and beat them as well. Hook'em.
