Day 10

With a fairly mellow morning consisting of the usual walk throughs, by 2pm we were fully prepared to face the Dutch, our mental game being key to success today. The weather was also on our side, with thunderstorms and rain being replaced with 20 degree heat and sunshine.

The pregame custom was repeated, with us Scots singing O Flower of Scotland a cappella before listening to the Dutch national anthem - a repeat of a few days earlier. The Dutch opened the scoring, however we quickly answered back and held the lead throughout the game from thereon in. At half time we told ourselves again and again that complacency had killed us before.

This message stuck, and we were happy to take away the victory that would have us face off against the Welsh - once more - and go for 9th place. Although all of us were hoping to play some different teams and shoot for 6th, 7th or 8th place, 9th is certainly still fighting for.

After the game we got the chance to see the USA beat the Iroquois in a game that was initially interesting but quickly descended into US stalling - a tactic well used but one that lost me €5, I bet on the Iroquois beating the US with goal keeper Andrew Bolland.

Tomorrow we play the Welsh, so another early night.
