BALTIMORE, Feb. 25, 2015 - US Lacrosse, the national governing body for men’s and women’s lacrosse, announces the addition of two chapters to its network of regional chapters. The US Lacrosse Board of Directors approved the addition of a new chapter in Western North Carolina, and the reconstitution of the Chesapeake (Md.) Chapter, which had been previously dissolved in 2010. Led by local volunteers and supported by national staff in Baltimore, each chapter will deliver programs, services and leadership to the lacrosse community within its geographic area.
Per US Lacrosse guidelines, the new chapters will function under provisional status for one year. During this time, each chapter must demonstrate compliance with US Lacrosse chapter guidelines, meet all annual deadlines and progress toward chapter certification requirements.
“We are thrilled to announce the additions of the Chesapeake and Western North Carolina Chapters,” said Mike Cochran, senior manager for eastern regional development at US Lacrosse. “These new chapters increase US Lacrosse’s capacity to serve areas that have experienced rapid lacrosse growth.”
The Western North Carolina Chapter, headquartered in Charlotte, will split the state in half. The existing North Carolina chapter, which previously served the full state, will be renamed the Eastern North Carolina chapter.
“The addition of a second chapter in North Carolina provides the necessary infrastructure to sustain, and ultimately build upon, lacrosse’s tremendous advancements in the state,” Cochran said.
The Chesapeake Chapter becomes the fifth chapter that serves part of the membership in the state of Maryland. The chapter’s primary footprint is Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.
The US Lacrosse network now features 67 chapters across 45 states. To learn more about the US Lacrosse national chapters, please visit www.uslacrosse.org/chapters.
About US Lacrosse Chapters
A chapter of US Lacrosse is an extension of the national organization. A chapter unifies, promotes and provides programs and services to men’s and women’s youth, high school and post-collegiate lacrosse in its geographic area. Chapters run their own hall of fame banquets, special events, fundraisers, tournaments, meetings and gatherings. They can also host Coaching Education Program clinics, officials training clinics, apply for US Lacrosse’s grant programs and send teams to US Lacrosse national youth events.
