The Very First Lacrosse Program on the Indian Subcontinent

One year ago, our Co-Founder Joey Cowen traveled to India, while he was there he visited an orphanage called Ramana’s Garden. India continues to struggle with the burden of the caste system, and so the Director of Ramana’s Garden decided to build a school reserved for the “Untouchables”, the lowest caste. This caste has almost no opportunities for education or employment, so the school pushes through the cultural boundaries which have been in place for thousands of years. A good fit for One World Lacrosse. A year later, OWL Founder Kevin Gallagher returned to the school to create a sustainable youth lacrosse program. Since lacrosse has always been a sport for the privileged in America, OWL aims to shift the current paradigm, and to provide the opportunity for kids to experience the game we all love. No matter their income, education, religion, or geographic location. We have no borders.

Over the past six weeks, with the help of Adrenaline Lacrosse, we have been developing youth lacrosse on the sacred Ganges River in Rishikesh, India. Stay tuned as we release photos, video, and first hand accounts from the very first youth lacrosse program on the Indian subcontinent.

One World Lacrosse is growing and needs your help. To apply for summer volunteer positions, past/present high school, college, and professional players are urged to check out www.oneworldlacrosse.org, www.facebook.com/oneworldlax, or email info@oneworldlacrosse.org for more information regarding volunteer and internship opportunities.
