On Wednesday, Paul Rabil announced on Twitter that the Premier Lacrosse League had partnered with Wolf Athletics to produce PLL-branded mini sticks. The sticks are set to go on sale starting in February, but in an effort to reach new fans of lacrosse, they will be sold exclusively at Walmart's retail stores.
The league announced that more than 340 stores across 33 states in the U.S. would be stocked with the new PLL mini sticks. Sticks would be priced at $23.99 for one and $39.97 for two. The move is yet another by the PLL to make the game of lacrosse both affordable and accessible to new and beginner fans.
Yet, just because the sticks are designed for beginners, doesn't mean they don't have some great uses for seasoned lacrosse fanatics. Playing a little speed lacrosse on the beach this summer? Grab some PLL mini sticks. Want to get some wall ball in during vacation? Snag a mini stick. Tired of cutting down shafts for your college dorm lacrosse games with your roommates? Just go and buy some mini sticks.
In all seriousness, the move is a great one by the PLL and Wolf Athletics and is sure to get young kids perusing the sporting goods section at Walmart intrigued about the "sport of the future." It's also a great way for parents to allow their kids to try out lacrosse without having to buy a $80-$100 stick before their child has even committed to playing the sport. And we all know that happy moms and dads eventually make happy lacrosse moms and lacrosse dads.
