In Maverik’s latest video, Turner talks about the essentials of a proper goalie warm up and demonstrates several unique pregame drills that can be easily be worked into any goalies pregame routine. “The goalie position is one of the most overlooked positions on the lacrosse field,” said Turner. “There is more to warming up a goalie than having a middie fire off random shots as hard as they can. I like to use several short stick drills to improve hand eye coordination in combination with a regular goalie warm up. All of my drills are focused on giving a goalie the opportunity work on their mechanics and getting their body behind the ball.”
Kip is a natural leader and one of lacrosse's premier goalies. He was the starting goalie for three years at the University of Virginia where he helped guide the Cavaliers to two NCAA final fours, one NCAA national championship, one ACC championship, and was in-charge between the pipes for the only team in lacrosse history to post a 17-0 season. His dominance in goal garnered him All-American honors twice. In 2008, Turner was selected second overall in Major League Lacrosse's draft by the Boston Cannons, the highest goalie ever picked in a draft. His hard work and determination was also recognized in 2010 when he was named the MLL Goalkeeper of the Year and garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors in weeks six, nine and ten.
“Kip is one of the most knowledgeable goalies you will find between the pipes and is someone future stars of our sport can learn a lot from,” said John Gagliardi, President and founder of Maverik Lacrosse. “His work ethic and passion for teaching is only matched by his love for playing lacrosse. We are really proud to have him represent our brand.”
