Grip ‘N Rip: UNC Attackman Billy Bitter

Lacrosse Playground, every once in awhile, features a different lacrosse athlete as part of our “Grip ‘N Rip” series, where we’ll find out what the best use to fine tune their game. Today we feature UNC All-American, Billy Bitter.

Can you tell us a little bit about the stick you are playing with? What type of head it is, how it is strung, who strung it, why, etc...
I use the STX Surgeon head on a Scandium Pro Grip shaft. I am not sure how it’s strung, but I just send my heads to Gavin Petracca and he does it so the ball comes out nicely for feeding (the pocket is set in the middle of the head). Gavin in my opinion is the best stick stringer around. If he is busy I will ask my Dad or my friend from high school Luke Santoro to hook me.

What are you looking forward to most about this season?
I’m really looking forward to making the next step to greatness. This is my last year as a Tar Heel and the previous three years we have come up just short of reaching our ultimate goal to win a national title. I feel we have great freshman class that will contribute on both ends of the field and our captains will do their job of leading us to where we want to be in May.

Will you be healthy and ready-to-go in the first game this season?
I have been full go in practice since we got back to school from Christmas break. I am real excited to be healthy again.

What's in your ipod?
All kinds of music. My top songs right now are:

Drowning (Avicii Remix) by Armin van Buuren

La Vie (The Life) by The Dean’s List

My Bitter Cheap Symphony by Mashup-Germany

Walkin Around by Dean and Ravo

Do you have any tips for young laxers out there?
Do as much wall ball as you can, attend as many camps/clinics as you can (always thank your parents for giving you the opportunity to attend) and to have fun!
