Warrior Pro Player and Ohio Machine brick wall, Scott Rodgers drops by to give the low down on what he’s using to stop some serious heat in the MLL. After being named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2010 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament, he finished his career at Notre Dame ranked first in save percentage and third in goals-against average in the NCAA. Scott was selected as the 7th overall pick in the 2010 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Hamilton Nationals and lead the Nationals to the 2011 championship game. Now, Scott is playing for the Ohio Machine and has been a mainstay on MLL rosters, offering veteran influence and leadership.

What head and shaft are you using?

The Warrior Nemesis 2 with a Warrior Krypto Pro, I just switched out the shaft from a Warrior Diamond. I have a custom head strung up by Goalie Strings and the dye job is done by Pocket Power Lacrosse. It’s funny because I got this fresh dyed head and then I got traded from Ohio to Atlanta. Thankfully I got traded back so I could use it.

Do you string your own sticks? If not, who does?

I don’t know how to string anything! I’ve tried to learn but I seriously can’t figure it out.

What kind of pocket are you using?

  • Mesh: 20 diamond, I like the diamonds to be small. It’s a white ECD mesh.

  • Pocket placement: I use a pretty serious bag, the rebound control is so important in the MLL so I need that.

  • Shooters: Old school 4 straight across the top

  • Whip: I’m not a big whip guy, I need a functional pocket to throw accurate outlet passes.

How do you tape your sticks?

I’m really superstitious, every game I tape it and I go from the plastic to about three inches down the stick. The bottom is about 10 inches of tape down the shaft. I’ve been taping my stick like this for years

What gloves are you using?

I’m a warrior guy so I’ve got a few different pairs of gloves to show off.

Any superstitions or funny stories?

You ever watch me go to the coach, I do a left, center, right pipe tap and then a little prayer before every quarter. If I’m in the zone I’m always walking around the huddle and I’m never really paying attention to what the coach is saying. When I’m in the zone I really don’t try to talk to anyone. If I’m not playing I’m the most annoying person on the bench and I’m so loud.

How do you feel about using a lighter stick?

I really don’t care. I used to get older stuff when I was younger so I never got the lighter stuff. Also .5 ounces doesn’t change much for me since I’m a big guy.

What’s your favorite sandwich?

It’s called long island hungry man, twelve inch sub with four eggs, hash browns, ham, sausage, bacon, cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup, and hot sauce.
