University of Maryland grad and 17th overall draft pick by the Florida Launch, Joe LoCascio dropped by to share some insight to the stick that’ll be using to throw some serious heat in the MLL this coming season. The Lindenhurst, New York native graduated from the University of Maryland in 2015 with USILA Third Team All-American and a First Team All-Big Ten honors. Joe finished his career college with 59 goals and 25 assists.

What kind of head and shaft are you using now that you’re in the MLL?

Now that I am in the MLL I use the Warrior Evo 4 HS and Warrior Diamond Shaft, in the offseason l switch over to the STX Sci-Ti because I like the shape and durability of the shaft.

Do you string your own sticks? If not, who does?

I string my own sticks and many of my past and current teammates as well.

What kind of pocket are you using?

I use a mid-high pocket, with East Coast Hero Mesh and strings. Two shooters across with the first starting three rows down and the second five rows down.

How does this set up compare to what you used in college?

The string set up is very similar except I moved the shooters down a row.

How do you tape your sticks?

I tape my stick with a knob about an inch up from the bottom and tape the lower half of the shaft before games.

I've seen that top string a lot on current and former Terps sticks. Mike Chanenchuk’s, Henry West’s, I think I saw it on Matt Rambo's as well. Did you come up with it?

Yeah I string all of their sticks, I came up with it. It's sweet, hahaha!

Your buddy Sean Rooney at Lacrosse Unlimited said you used an insane amount of whip. Would you say that’s true?

In college I used a lot more whip then I do now. Probably about a 9 out of 10, but with the pro ball I needed to take some out leaving me with about a 7.

You had to adjust to the 2013 NCAA stringing rules. How did you do it? Was it a hassle?

It was an easy adjustment, I took the stick I had and moved the shooters to the new rules keeping the lower one as far down as it can go.

Any superstitions or funny stories about your stick?

Like my former teammate and good friend Henry West, I’m not a fan of anyone touching my lacrosse stick before a game.
