Grip 'N Rip: Drew Snider, Denver Outlaws
Share
Not many players come out of the west coast and start after one season at the University of Maryland. Even fewer players score the game winning goal in an MLL Championship game. To my knowledge, the only player that fits this bill is Denver Outlaws midfielder Drew Snider. Drew is a force to be reckoned with when he's on the field. In four seasons with the Outlaws, Drew has scored 103 goals and has been a constant presence at the midfield since graduating in 2012. Drew and the rest of the Outlaws are gearing up for the new MLL season, and this week, Drew shows off the stick he's using on the field.
What head and shaft are you using? What do you like so much about that head?
During the Denver Outlaw season I use the Warrior Evo 4 with a diamond burn pro shaft. I like it because it’s sturdy but also light at the same time.
How do you tape your stick?
I tape half way up my stick.
Do you string your own sticks? If not, who does?
I do string my own sticks.
What kind of a pocket are you using?
A mid to high pocket usually with standard hard mesh. I usually have a throwing string straight across with two U shooting strings. I like my sticks to release quick on my passes but to whip on my shot.
How much has your pocket changed since college?
My pocket hasn't changed much from college to pro besides I have less hold now.
The air is really dry during the summers in Washington and Denver which differs greatly from the humid air in Maryland. Does the dry air have an effect on your pocket?
The air and humidity definitely effects my pocket during the season when I travel from place to place. It helps to know how to adjust your pocket!
You grew up in an area that didn’t have a ton of exposure to lacrosse. How were you able to get decent gear that fit your ability as you grew older?
I got a lot of gear from college players because my dad ran a summer camp with players from Virginia. They would always hook me up.
You’re currently signed by Warrior, what made you choose them?
I choose Warrior because they expressed the most interest in me. They have also been one of the founding equipment companies in the lacrosse world... my first stick (that was offset) was Warrior. I also like what the brand has coming down the pipeline.
Congratulations on being selected to represent the USA in the Indoor World Games. What were you using for box?
For indoor we were allowed to use any stick we wanted so I stuck with my Warrior Evo 4 with a Titanium shaft.
I’ve seen you using a Maryland flag dyed Evo4. Who did the dye?
PK Panda did my Maryland dye. He has told me we will be doing another one this season. I’m looking forward to it.
