Fitting Your Lacrosse Head on a Different Brand's Shaft

On December 30th, Will Holley, a regular on our Fan Page, posted the comment, "You guys should do a post on fitting heads to shafts. It seems like a lot of people don't know the hot water trick." We liked this idea for a post because it demonstrates creativity, originality and innovation. The staff at LPG liked it so much that we asked Will to write a guest post. Below is his write-up:

I’m doing this guest post today to show you a technique I came up with in order to fit practically any head on any shaft. A lot of times heads and shafts of different brands won’t fit on each other with ease. This is a 3 minute fix with only a few steps that should make it a lot easier to slide the head on.


Step 1. Fill up a mug or thermos to the top with water. It doesn’t matter if it is hot or cold water as long as it’s water.

Step 2. Throw the mug in the microwave for 3 minutes. (Although I used a regular glass in the picture, I strongly recommend a liquid container that is microwave safe. The glass was all that I had lying around….that’s what you get at boarding school.)


Step 3. Dip the throat of your head into the water for 10-20 seconds in order to let the plastic heat up. You want to get the water as far up the throat as possible. Don’t fret if you can’t get it all the way to the top.


Step 4. Slide the head onto your shaft. Because the plastic was heated up, it does a better job of fitting onto the metal.


I know a lot of times my new heads don’t fit and it’s a pain to have to try to jam them onto the shaft. This should relieve that hassle. Hope this helped you guys out!
