The lacrosse artwork by the Art of Lax™ that was launched earlier this year has been turned into t-shirts. The shirts are 100% pre-shrunk, heavy cotton by Gildan and the images are screened onto the fabric. Limited designs, sizes (Large and XL only) and colors available at $15.00 per shirt (price does not include shipping/handling).
A little history behind the line: Artist Vinnie Ricasio started playing lacrosse in fourth grade but was also very artistic. So when it came time for college he had to decide whether he wanted to pursue art as a future, or play lacrosse. Vinnie ended up at the Pratt Institute of Art and Design in Brooklyn, NY where his senior thesis was the history of lacrosse in art form (which, incidentally, was shot down by the administration).
Two years after college Ricasio got back into lacrosse at the club level and soon teammates and friends were asking whether any of his lacrosse art is for sale. He decided to start selling his drawings, launching those last year at the U.S. Lacrosse Convention. But until now his art has been in print only and not on shirts.
“The past three years a lacrosse teammate, who is in this venture with me, asked me to custom design our own images for lacrosse tournament reversibles,” said Ricasio. “This summer we put one of my best selling drawings on a shirt for a lax tournament and we've been getting positive feedback and inquiries from friends and random people on the street here in NYC.”
So a decision was made to take Ricasio’s drawings and put them on t-shirts. To purchase t-shirts, visit www.theArtofLax.com and click on “apparel” to view the line. Early orders have already been taken and shipped out. These shirts will be available to the public at the 2010 US Lacrosse Convention in Baltimore Jan. 15th at the “Vendor Village” area.
